So the sun was out and shining, and we were itching to find that spot—you know the kind. A cold beer in hand, killer outdoor seating, and if there’s a view? Total bonus.
We already love Oak Tree Station. That’s our usual go-to when the weather behaves, but we’d just been there and wanted something new. Somewhere that checked all the boxes—brews, views, and good food—without feeling like we were going to a packed pub patio just for the sake of it.
At first, Migration Brewing in Gresham came to mind. It’s solid. But man, the traffic on the bridge? Not fun.
Then Skamania Lodge came up. We’ve been before—it’s always a vibe. But here’s the thing: the Cascade Dining Room is only open on weekends. River Rock Lounge had great views, and we did stop in for a quick bite—worth it just for the scenery—but something was still missing.
And then it hit us: Thunder Island Brewing in Cascade Locks.
Located at 601 Wa Na Pa St, Cascade Locks, OR 97014, just a few miles past the Bridge of the Gods, this place is what you imagine when you think dream brewery setting. Getting there is part of the magic too. You drive the scenic Highway 14, which already feels like a mini-vacation, and then you cross the Bridge of the Gods—straight out of a postcard.
Once we got to Thunder Island Brewing, it was all locked in. The breeze off the water, the views of the Columbia Gorge, picnic tables lined up outside, and those beers? Solid lineup. I'm more of an IPA guy, and they delivered on that front. Crisp, clean pours, perfect for that sun + shades + chill afternoon vibe.
We ordered food—simple but really good. Nothing over the top, just what you want when you’re there to enjoy the moment. And that view? Unreal. Mountain peaks, riverfront tables, and not a single reason to rush.
If you’ve been looking for a brewery near Vancouver WA with breathtaking views, Thunder Island is 100% worth the drive. Skip the bridge traffic into Portland. Hop onto Highway 14, enjoy the ride, and make this your next sunny-day destination.
