Best Biscuits and Gravy in Vancouver, WA (Yes, We Tried a Bunch)

Biscuits & Gravy
Biscuits & Gravy

Let’s be real, finding the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA, is way harder than it should be. You’d think this classic comfort food would be hard to mess up, but oh man… some of these places need to go back to the drawing board. That said, there are still a few spots worth waking up early for, and a few you’ll want to politely pass on.

I pulled comments straight from the Dining in the Couve Facebook group, scouted the best recommendations, and even added some brutally honest takes that’ll make you laugh or cry depending on how serious you are about your sausage gravy.

Here’s what made the cut (and what didn’t), based on what locals actually say, plus what to expect if you go.

1. Joe Brown’s Cafe

📍 817 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660

A lot of folks in the group swear by Joe Brown’s. It’s got that old-school downtown diner feel, with regulars who’ve probably been ordering the same breakfast for decades. But not everyone agrees. While some love the vibe and the biscuits and gravy, others say the gravy lacks sausage and flavor, comparing it to “wallpaper paste with lawn clippings.” Ouch. If you're just looking for a solid diner breakfast with charm, it might still be worth checking out.

2. Carol’s Corner Cafe

📍 7800 NE St Johns Rd, Vancouver, WA 98665

You’ll hear this place mentioned again and again. Massive portions? Check. A local legend? Yep. But does Carol’s serve the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA? That depends. A few folks argue the gravy tastes canned, and the biscuits, while huge, can feel a little dry and doughy. Still, if you're hungry and want the most bang for your buck, it’s one of the top contenders.

3. Bleu Door Bakery

📍 2411 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660

A popular brunch stop downtown. Bleu Door is known more for its upscale feel and creative dishes, but their biscuits and gravy have fans—especially if you like something a little fancier than the greasy spoon standard. That said, a few locals called them out for “cake-like biscuits” and not enough gravy. So if you’re a purist, this might not be your vibe—but it’s still worth a stop if you’re downtown and curious.

4. Tip Top Too

📍 2100 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660

Now here’s a sleeper pick. You’d never guess a tavern off Fourth Plain would serve up one of the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA, but several die-hard B&G fans swear by this place. The gravy is rich, full of sausage, and definitely made from scratch. If you don’t mind your breakfast coming with the smell of beer and bar stools, this place is seriously underrated.

5. Uptown Barrel Room

📍 2011 Main St, Vancouver, WA 98660

Only available for breakfast Friday–Sunday, but when it’s on, it’s on. Think: fresh, dense biscuits and sausage-packed gravy that doesn’t come from a can. A bit pricey, and the portions aren’t huge—but the quality? Easily puts it in the running for the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA.

6. The Bigfoot Inn (Washougal)

📍 105 Pendleton Way, Washougal, WA 98671

Okay, it’s a little out of the way, but if you’re serious about finding the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA (and are willing to drive 20 minutes east), the Bigfoot Inn is worth the detour. Big portions, real sausage gravy, and a surprisingly cozy tavern atmosphere. One local said it best: “My GOD, do they know how to make B&G!”

7. Breakfast at Valerie’s

📍 516 SE Chkalov Dr #45, Vancouver, WA 98683

The B&G here makes a lot of "top 5" lists. Especially if you go for the Big Redneck option (yes, that's what it’s called). Be ready for a big plate and a food coma. Bonus: you can add eggs, bacon, or whatever else your heart (and stomach) desires.

Bonus Mentions:

  • Cecelia (Downtown) – A bit of a twist on the classic. Flavorful and creative.

  • Di Tazza (Orchards) – Locals like it, especially if you're already a regular.

  • Plainsman (Hazel Dell) – Mixed reviews. Some call it underrated, others say pass.

  • Billy Blues (Hazel Dell) – Surprisingly decent. Not your average bar breakfast.

  • Natalia’s (Camas) – More than a few swear it’s worth the drive.

Honestly? A lot of people still think the best biscuits and gravy in Vancouver, WA, are made at home—and I can’t blame them. Between canned gravies, dry biscuits, and no sausage in sight, it’s easy to get disappointed. But there are a handful of spots doing it right—real gravy, real sausage, and biscuits that don’t taste like sponges.

If you’re on the hunt, start with Tip Top Too, Uptown Barrel Room, or The Bigfoot Inn. Then work your way through the rest. Just skip the Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill unless you enjoy being disappointed before noon.

Let me know if you try any of these—or if you’ve got a place I missed. I’ll happily take one for the team and check it out.
